How to Create a FALL Mom Wardrobe

How do I prepare myself to go back to school? Typically parents only think about back to school preparations for students toward the end of summer break, however what about mom?  Back to school time is here, and that means it's time for moms to start thinking about their back to school wardrobe. So if this isn't something you have not thought of before, I would encourage you to check out a previous post of why you need a mom wardrobe (CLICK HERE) . One of the many reasons why you definitely need to be a focal point is when mom feels put together it makes family life easier. After all, you'll be spending a lot of time running errands, helping your kids with their homework, attending school events, taking them to tutoring, etc. I know that summer break always seem so  So, it's important to have clothes that are comfortable, stylish, and functional- first day of school fresh. Below are 10 clothing items that every mom needs for her back to school wardrobe-trust me mom jeans are not on the list.

Back to School Shopping List for Mom

1. A comfortable pair of jeans and leggings.

When school starts, you'll be doing a lot of running around, you'll want to make sure you're comfortable. Leggings are quick and easy to slide on shortly after the alarm clock goes off to help you start the day comfortably. Also leggings are my favorite because they prevent the dreaded wake up to put pants on only to find out they're to small. That can really affect your mindset for the day in a negative way. Leggings also help you to adapt to weather easier especially when there is a last minute weather change. If it's hot you won't burn up and if it's cold you won’t freeze to death.

2. A few versatile tops.

You'll want to have tops that can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. Include multiple plain shirts and decorative shirts and this includes graphic tees too. Pairing these under a cardigan and depending on the shoes can create different vibes- dress up or down. Also, buy some power tops. You know the ones that make you feel super cute regardless of what else is going on in the hair and makeup department. Some days you have a bad hair day and are just barely making it out of bed a cute top goes a long way to cover up insecurities that could be happening in the top half of the body.

3. A cardigan or blazer.

This will come in handy for those chilly mornings and evenings. I get cold and hot easily. This is an easy way to have layers and create different looks at the same time. This can also help for a more polished look for when you have important meetings like teachers conference day, a meeting at work, or just simply want to look like you actually had more than 5 minutes to get dressed.

4.Shoes

Shoes maketh the outfit. That's what I live by. My shoe obsession is so real, I included it in my vows😉. However a fall wardrobe doesn't require  a whole walkin closet of shoes to make a lasting impact this school year. Not only does shoes provide comfort for the weather, they also help with your mental health. Have the essentials and then build more from there if you desire. I recommend at least 4 pairs of shoes to start-sandals, gym shoes, flat dress shoes, and boots. Please make sure you are starting off with a fresh pair in each category. A pair that might be as old as your children does not count. Remember moms need a fresh start to the school year too. Each pair serves as a tool to achieve a successful day and can transform the outfit into a different look.

5. A pair of sunglasses.

These will protect your eyes from the sun on those bright summer days AND when the sun deceives us by shining so bright while dropping the kids off in the winter. They are not just for function- moms they are a part of the wardrobe. It's something that you will wear often so don't feel back for spending a little more on a quality pair of sunglasses that will hold up year round. Final tip : Make sure to store them in the car at the end of the day. This avoids the last minute 20 minute scramble to find them when you most need them and already running late to get out the door to head for school.

6. A bag.

I love me a good purse/bag. You need a bag that will fit everything you need and is stylish. Aint nobody got time to be rocking a granny bag just to transport everything. I would also suggest getting the travel size of everything you could need to cut down on the weight. Purse organizers are also great to keep your stuff from rolling around in the bag. You'll need a bag to carry all of your essentials, like your laptop, books, and snacks. I'm known for having an endless supply of items in my purse, it's a habit, I get it honest . however it has truly served me whether its winning every time they have the what's in your purse baby shower game or just things needed at the last minute.

7. A smartwatch.

You can track time, quickly glance at text messages or other notifications that could be urgent. We not gonna get into the Apple vs Android War, remember this is a judgement free zone here just get whichever is applicable to you. The important part is you are monitoring your health and keeping up with the day’s twist and turns effortlessly. Track those steps you are getting in with the endless transporting, errand running, and school projects- all movement counts. I use timers to remind me of when to leave the house for dropoff/pickup, reminders of tasks throughout the day, even alerts for when a daytime show comes on. Read: That's your reminder to have some built in time to relax, SAHMs. Every job has a lunch break to refresh, consider this yours. Sub TV Show with whatever helps you to relax. This will help you keep track of time, especially when you're running errands or helping your kids with their homework.

These are just a few of the many clothing items that every mom needs for her back to school wardrobe. Ladies, let's just add it to the school supplies list because afterall we are students of motherhood. We all are learning the best ways to show up for our children AND ourselves.
