See ya Next Lifetime

There’s options for your clothes’ next life

There’s options for your clothes’ next life

When it’s time to purge my closet of clothes, I have a few places to give the clothes a new life. If I don’t sell the clothes, I often donate to a non profit. Some of my clothes that are gently used but I know second hand or consignment shops won’t take because it’s not one of the brands they take. I automatically put them into a donation pile. This also helps to keep clothes out of the landfill for those environmentally savvy folks and also gives shoppers a good deal on gently used clothes. I also donate old T-shirts that I get from walks, volunteer events, etc. During this purge, I dropped off the remainder of my clothes at Goodwill. The location near my house has a drive through. I put the clothes into several trash plastic bags. They gave me a receipt to use for my taxes. The whole process only took 15 minutes because I was the 4th car in line.

In the past, I have used the National Kidney Foundation. You call to schedule a pickup. The pickup date is based on when they will be in the area. The day of pickup all items need to be outside your door or at the end of the driveway. Items all need to be clearly labeled NKF on each bag/box/household item. The items need to be outside by 8am and they will come pickup anywhere from 8am to 5pm. When they pick up the clothes they also leave a receipt to fill out that you can use for tax purposes. This is a great option when you don’t feel like loading your car up and have a lot to donate.
