How to Plan an Easy Momcation

momcation, vacation, staycation

Spoiler Alert: Being a mom is hard work. But you are already well aware of that. You're constantly taking care of your kids, running errands, and trying to keep your house in order. It's no wonder that you feel like you need a break sometimes! You often think, “I need a vacation away from my family.”

But taking a vacation can be expensive, and it can be hard to find the time to get away. That's why I'm here to tell you about momcations. A momcation is a short vacation that moms take for themselves, without their kids. They're a great way to relax, recharge, and come back to your family feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

The best part about momcations is that they don't have to be expensive. You can have a great time without spending a lot of money and plan the trip with a short amount of time. Here are a few tips for planning an easy and inexpensive momcation:

Ask for help.

Let your husband/partner/village know that you need a break. Ask if they will keep the kiddos while you go away to recharge. Don't let anything talk you out of asking for this time- you need it!  Mom guilt ain't never served anything good. Think of a time frame to leave that works best for the family. Is it on the weekend so that dad can watch the kids without calling in reinforcements? Or can it be a few weekdays because your village can handle getting the kids to school or summer camp with your spouse.Taking your momcation during the week can save you on hotels, restaurants-think happy hour deals, and excursions. This can also cut down on the traffic of the place meaning you can have more individualized services. Be open to the possibilities of when the momcation can happen so it actually happens.

Choose a destination that's close to home.

This is where many moms get hung up. You don't need a big elaborate vacation for a momcation. Would it be ideal- yes. However the whole reason the momcation has not happened is because you are waiting for the perfect time to go and be away for several days including travel time AND the time to plan such an elaborate trip.. Guess what? When you have kids there is never a “perfect time to be away” or ample time to thoroughly plan a trip for yourself. Not to mention that mom guilt is sneaking around the corner every chance it gets. If it were so easy to plan a larger detailed vacay for yourself, it would have already been done. Choose a place that is a short drive -1 hour or 2  away. Just far enough where you can't come rushing back at a moment's notice but also don't feel obligated to make extensive details such as flight, transportation, excursions, etc.

Plan ahead.

Is there a really nice restaurant you want to go to and enjoy solo?  Make sure the restaurants and/or attractions are open when you want to go. This list is not set in stone, its just things you may want to do. Remember while on the momcation, do whatever you feel like doing (aside from committing crimes). You may get to the momcation and end up going to a restaurants for nourishment and sleeping. That’s ok because you are focusing on what you need. The purpose of this list is so you have quick access to what's available when you are ready to do something without wasting relaxation time on research.

Remember: Every mom needs a break. Even if you are unable to plan a weekend or a few consecutive days during the week, atleast plan a one day where you spend 6 hours by yourself away from any responsibilities. You can not afford to not take a momcation. You already know that you can not pour from an empty cup. You'll come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and you'll be a better mom for it.❤️
