Spring Clean, Household Chores

Spring cleaning with my Dyson vacuum cleaner

Best Spring Cleaning Supplies for busy moms

I don't know about you, but I do not enjoy spending the whole day cleaning. I am a SAHM that hates housework. My children were my reason for becoming a SAHM with the red headed step child of house chores tagging along for the ride. During my time as a SAHM, I have discovered some cleaning tools that cut the time spent in half or at least gives the appearance of less time. These cleaning products clean most of the house faster and with less supplies.

Dyson Vacuum

I know it's priced higher but its soo worth it. The freedom to vacuum anywhere anytime is priceless. No cords and all the attachments to vacuum various flooring types and places to vacuum. I use it in my car and everywhere. I actually enjoy vacuuming. *gasp*. I instantly vacuumed more often and got a better quality job with my dyson. There are other brands that offer cordless vacuums at different price points so even if you do not get a dyson, a quality wireless vacuum is worth it. A cordless vacuum is a game changer.

Swifter Duster

It is so easy to ignore dusting until the dust bunnies start to pile up. An easy way to stop ignoring this chore is a Swifter duster. It’s so much easier to dust than using an old rag. You can use it to clean the whole house and then pitch the cloth. No need to wash the dust rag.

Clorox wipes

It's so easy to disinfect a surface quickly. With 3 children there is always something to disinfect and clean quickly. Once that spot dries, there is sure to be another ready to be cleaned right around the corner.

Dawn Spray

Gets all the mess on the dishes. It cuts the grease and all other food particles stuck to the plate fairly quickly. I can do without the added scent (I’m sensitive to scents) but that is just me. The original blue dawn liquid soap is a staple for dishwashing. Rumor has it that you can refill the spray bottle with your favorite Dawn soap and it will have the same effect. I will have to try that and let yall know😉

Swiffer Mop

After I use the vacuum cleaner, I can quickly mop the floor, no buckets or water needed here. Just let it dry. There are different formulas- hardwood floor, disinfect, etc to address your floors. And in true swiffer form, there's no after cleaning cleanup- just remove the mop pad and throw away. Considering I need to mop twice a week (actually I could really do it more but I might actually want to do other things like enjoy life) this helps cut out the time of filling a bucket with water and waiting even longer for the floor to dry. It is particularly effective for quick spot cleaning.

Shout

The way Buster came home from preschool looking like he rolled around in a marker box all day, I needed a tough cleaner to get the stains out on the first wash. I spray the stained spot and let it sit for 5 minutes or up to 15 minutes (if its a rather pesky stain). Then I rub it together and pop it into the wash. 98 percent of the time it came out on the first wash. It also helps to wash almost immediately that day or the next in order to prevent the stain from setting in.

Mr. Clean Eraser

This product is the goat of removing stains particularly markers and crayons. Just wet the sponge a little and rub the area and watch the marks disappear. I have multiple tiny humans and multiple tiny human nephews that have drawn on my walls at some point in time. I use the eraser to quickly remove the “artwork” without having to repaint.

Bonus tip: Try adding 2 speed cleaning sessions to your day. I set a timer twice for 15 minutes a day with Alexa and crank music or catch up with a girlfriend while cleaning. This has really helped to keep cleaning more manageable and not feel so overwhelming.

These products take some of the extra “elbow grease”/time/effort needed to clean and help/  shorten my daily tasks and the likelihood of them being completed. They also work double time on some of the Spring cleaning or quarterly tasks like cleaning cabinets, decluttering and rearranging household items.
